The National Librarian, Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi has stated that the present ratings of the officers of the organization leaves much to be desired. She said this at the 2023 strategy and retreat session organized for the officers of NLN held at CALIM, Enugu.
Prof. Anunobi emphasized that there is need for a disciplined workforce in the organization as the current performance ratings of the workforce needs to be enhanced.
She further stated that disciplined workforce is a requisite for improved service efficiency and to drive performance in the library, to meet her administration’s eight-point agenda.
She said an organization’s performance to an extent is dependent on the quality of its leadership, the quality of communication between the leadership and its workforce, and the overall level of organizational team spirit.
Prof. Anunobi while addressing the management staff insisted that there must be an objective rating of staff members by their superiors.
According to her, there should be a remarkable difference in rating between an officer who is punctual and diligent to his/her duty from someone whose performance is below average, especially now that the organization is making efforts to redeploy and refresh professional staff
She urged the participants to adopt the principles of team building, effective communication, emotional intelligence, delegation of duty, collaboration and decision-making as tips to the realization of the national library’s strategic goals.
It was a forum for Heads of Department to present their work plan and targets for the year 2023.
In order to drive home the outcome of the retreat, decisions were made and resolutions were reached. Communique was also released.
