Nigeria, Bulgaria National Libraries to Exchange Indigenous Literature

The National Library of Nigeria and the National Library of the Republic of Bulgaria are to explore a symbiotic cultural relationship that will see the two National Libraries exchanging indigenous literature of their countries.

This was disclosed during an official visit by the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Nigeria National Library in Abuja, on Monday 15th November, 2021. Speaking during the visit, the National Librarian and Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria, Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi stated that the National Library of Nigeria will collaborate with the Bulgaria National Library in order to promote the exchange of books and resources of both nations’ origin. 

She further stated that National Library of Nigeria has resources predating the colonial rule and other rich resources about the peoples and cultures of Nigeria. Earlier, His Excellency, Mr. Yanko Yordanov had informed his host that the Bulgaria National Library had created a dedicated Corner where it intends to stock books exclusively about Nigeria. This, according to the Ambassador, will enable Bulgarians and Nigerians who study in Bulgaria to know more about Nigeria. He stated that the proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will open a discussion for both organizations to cooperate meaningfully over the years to come. Meanwhile, the National Librarian/ CEO assured that there will be fruitful engagement with the supervising agencies to start the process immediately
