The National Library of Nigeria in collaboration with the Reading Association of Nigeria (RAN), the National Institute for Nigerian Languages (NINLAN), and the USAID funded Leveraging Education Assistance Resources in Nigeria-LEARN to Read joined the global community to celebrate the 2022 international literacy day. The event which was held at Knosk 100-a-day secondary school Kuje Area Council Abuja was graced by the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Rt. Honourable Goodluck Nanah Opiah and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, the honourable Minister stated that there will be no joy, no growth or development without literacy. He therefore, advised the students to strive to become literate as that forms the foundation whatever one aspires to become in future.
Also speaking at the event, the National Librarian/CEO, Prof. Veronica Chinwe Anunobi stated that "the seed of lifelong learning and development of a wide horizon is planted in the acquisition of literacy skills" Highlighting on the theme of the day: Transforming Literacy Learning Spaces ", she pointed out that it is aimed at stimulating a rethink about the fundamental importance of literacy learning spaces to build resilience and ensure quality, equitable, and inclusive education for all. According to her, a literate society is easy to lead.
