READERSHIP PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES

The National Library of Nigeria (NLN) in line with her commitment to impact service delivery invites members of the public to attend physically or participate in our online programmes/ events she hopes will redefine librarianship in the promotion of reading culture in Nigeria.

The programmes are scheduled as follows:

I) The National Librarian/CEO interactive session with the stakeholders at the subnational levels in the educational sector for the establishment of Computer Based Test (CBT) practice centres across the country. The principal objective of the session is to develop the modalities for replication of the NLN’s exemplary gesture with CBT practice centres. The programme is scheduled to be held as follows: 

Date: August 26, 2024 at 10. am prompt 

Venue: Board Room, National Library of Nigeria, Sanusi Dantata House, Central Business District FCT, Abuja.

II) Launch an online Lifelong learning package using non-fiction books and non-books for personal and national development. It aims to provide inspirational information, which engenders national development and harmony. This will involve individuals submitting a list of 2 must-read non-fiction books with the takeaways from each book described in 750 words. Irrespective of the place of publication and format, it must be authored by a Nigerian and submitted as a legal deposit. As stated in the last post on our blog (intervention programmes), a selected entry will be acknowledged and appreciated.

Submission of entries for the programme will close on October 15, 2024;

III) Launch of #1000friendsofthelibrary, a public and private model designed to form a support group for library development and help to make the readership promotion campaign an all-year-round exercise. Membership of the group is open to any Nigerian desirous of giving back to the society through support for the Library activities. The National Librarian/CEO shall personally coordinate the activities of the support group which centred around: a) advocacy for more funds for library development; efforts aimed at showcasing achievements of great Nigerians to inspire and promote patriotism in the young ones through effective mass media use; and providing support for the Library’s research activities to evaluate programmes’ outcomes. The launch is tentatively scheduled to be held on October 22, 2024;

IV) The maiden edition of the ‘Meet the Great Mind’ a programme aimed at showcasing great Nigerians who have distinguished themselves through education and have done well for themselves and contributed greatly to national development. Members of the public could contact the Liaison officers for intervention programmes at +2347062389990 or + 2348033582084 to suggest names of individuals they wish the Library to feature in the programme. Therefore, our charity shall begin from home with the maiden edition featuring the National Librarian/CEO on September 12, 2024.
